National Avocado Day deals and freebies

Don’t mix up National Avocado Day (July 31) with National Guacamole Day in September. While most restaurants celebrate Avocado Day the same way — with offers for free guacamole — some are offering discounts on other dishes featuring the big green fruit.

We’ll list all the national avocado deals and freebies we can find for 2021, but check your local Living on the Cheap network sites for deals in your area. Avocados aren’t cheap in most parts of the country, so get them while they’re free or cheap.

While we wait for the National Avocado Day 2021 deals to be announced, take a look at last year’s deals to get an idea which restaurants usually celebrate this holiday with freebies and deals.

Also known as the alligator pear, the avocado is technically a berry. Avocados are packed with about 20 vitamins and minerals, and one-third of an avocado is only 80 calories. But who stops at a third? 

The Super Bowl is an unofficial avocado holiday because fans eat approximately 53.5 million pounds of guacamole on Super Bowl Sunday.

Bonus tip: If you are waiting for that rock-hard avocado to ripen so you can enjoy it, pop it into a brown paper bag with a banana or apple companion. The fruits produce ethylene, a naturally occurring gas, that will speed up the ripening process of the avocado.
