App Privacy Details on App Store

iOS 14.3 brings App Privacy Details on the App Store. This means that each app product page will contain ‘nutrition labels’ that inform about how the app plans to handle collected data. This gives you a clear overview about how the app affects your privacy, before downloading and installing it on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

The nutrition labels are available on the app’s product page. Just scroll for the App Privacy section and you will reach a description that reads:
‘The developer [name] indicated that its privacy practices include handling of data as described below. For more information, see the developer’s privacy policy.’

App Privacy Labels – Detailed

The privacy nutrition labels are divided into three categories:

  • Data Used To Track You
    Includes data collected by the app in question, that might be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. Example of such data types include: Location, Contact Info, Identifiers and so on.
  • Data Linked to You
    Contains data that can be collected by the app in question and linked to your accounts, devices or identity. Some examples are: Financial Info, Contact Info, Browsing History, Location, Purchases, Identifiers.
  • Data Not Linked to You
    Apps can also collect data, but it won’t be linked to your accounts, devices or identity. Such data points could be: Usage Data, Diagnostics and more.

App Privacy Details Not Showing Up?

You’ve updated to iOS 14.3 but can’t find the app privacy labels on the App Store? That’s because they are still optional. Apple will make them mandatory at the beginning of 2021 and apps that don’t update their privacy nutrition labels might be excluded from the store.
